Clique-transversal sets and weak 2-colorings in graphs of small maximum degree

چکیده
A clique-transversal set in a graph is a subset of the vertices that meets all maximal complete subgraphs on at least two vertices. We prove that every connected graph of order n and maximum degree three has a clique-transversal set of size b19n/30 + 2/15c. This bound is tight, since 19n/30− 1/15 is a lower bound for infinitely many values of n. We also prove that the vertex set of any connected claw-free graph of maximum degree at most four, other than an odd cycle longer than three, can be partitioned into two clique-transversal sets. The proofs of both results yield polynomial-time algorithms that find corresponding solutions.

In this paper, we study the group and list group colorings of total graphs and present group coloring versions of the total and list total colorings conjectures. We establish the group coloring version of the total coloring conjecture for the following classes of graphs: graphs with small maximum degree, two-degenerate graphs, planner graphs with maximum degree at least 11, planner graphs withou...
متن کاملOn Clique-Transversals and Clique-Independent Sets
A clique-transversal of a graph G is a subset of vertices intersecting all the cliques of G. A cliqueindependent set is a subset of pairwise disjoint cliques of G. Denote by τC(G) and αC(G) the cardinalities of the minimum clique-transversal and maximum clique-independent set of G, respectively. Say that G is clique-perfect when τC(H) = αC(H), for every induced subgraph H of G. In this paper, w...
متن کاملAlgorithmic Aspects of the Generalized Clique-transversal Problem on Chordal Graphs
Suppose G=( V,E) is a graph in which each maximal clique Ci is associated with an integer ri, where 0 < ri < ICi 1. The generalized clique transversal problem is to determine the minimum cardinality of a subset D of V such that ID n Cij >ri for every maximal clique Ci of G. The problem includes the clique-transversal problem, the i, 1 clique-cover problem, and for perfect graphs, the maximum q-...
متن کاملClique-Transversal Sets in Cubic Graphs
A clique-transversal set S of a graph G is a set of vertices of G such that S meets all cliques of G. The clique-transversal number, denoted τc(G), is the minimum cardinality of a clique-transversal set in G. In this paper we present an upper bound and a lower bound on τc(G) for cubic graphs, and characterize the extremal cubic graphs achieving the lower bound. In addition, we present a sharp u...
